Got a new stalling problem

Gah, just when you think you've got the gremlins banished, one sneaks up on you. When it's warming up, it doesn't want to keep going at a steady speed. Tooling along at 35 MPH or so, it will be going steady, but then it will act like it stalled. Once I let off the gas, it roars along for a spell, then repeats. It never actually dies, it idles fine, but if I hold the accelerator down it doesn't show any signs of going until I let off the gas. Now the stranger thing is, once it's warmed up, there's no trouble. I figured I'd crawl underneath and make sure there are no pinched or kinked fuel lines, since that's kind of what it's behaving like. Electric fuel pump is still ticking steady, and I see fuel going through the fuel filter, at least when I can pull over and raise the hood. Once it's warm I can do 50 MPH no trouble. Any ideas?

Sounds like what happens to my car when I'm not using enough choke. What sort of carburetor setup do you have? If it's something with an automatic choke, that's where I'd start looking. If it's regular SUs with a manual choke, are you sure you're not putting it in too soon?

Maybe your thermostat is bad or missing. If that were the case it could be taking too long for the engine to warm up.

   No, not laughing at your responses, I think I found out what the problem was this evening. Right about the time it was stalling previously, it did it again, but this time it didn't just come back to life. No, this time it just stopped dead. Seems my new Facet fuel pump decided to stop pumping. I just hear a single click when I turn the key on, not a continuous clicking.

There's a rally coming up next weekend, and my co-pilot from the last rally was willing to have another go. Bear in mind it vapor locked halfway through the previous rally, and on one other occasion that she was on board. So just last night we were talking and she asked how the Midget has been running, and I said it's been running great with the new fuel pump.

Nice, great to find the solution.
