last week my old HP finally died, pulled my son's up from the basement - also dead. risked waiting in line yesterday for the "door crasher HP special" - of course I was too late. So today I went a bought another HP - got it home, took an hour plus to set it up - ran perfectly. went to set up my ipad to print - didn't work, went online to check, Oh, this isn't compatible. Did I mention I specifically told the salesman I had an ipad. Packed it all up, took it back to the store, asked for a manager, apologized in advance for letting him have it with both barrels. Explained about the salesman and the printer and the time. Told him about how two weeks ago I bought an easel tripod and when I got it home, not only was it broken but it had obviously been re-shelved broken. Pointed out that when I brought it back to exchange that the only other one I could see was even more obviously re-shelved broken. Even talked about the time I have to bring my computer in for repair and the company wanted to ship it using their own box - so the shipped their own box to the store - in Ontario California! - four times!!!
Most of all explained that this kind of experience was not the exception but a regular occurrence and that that more than anything made me wonder how they had the gall to sell an easy button. No, I didn't raise my voice and I was very polite and I did get an apology and I do still have to do business with them because for printing and printing supplies they really are the only convenient game in town but I thought my head was going to explode. Oh and did I mention that same manager was explaining to the lady right in front of me at the cash register that she couldn't get the product she wanted there; she could only use the website.
Anyway, explained that I now had to take my business elsewhere, went to Future Shop - young salesman says, "how are you?" I said, "grumpy. one of your competitors sold me a printer I can't use my ipad on" - so he says, "how can we help you?" I said, I want an inexpensive printer I can use my ipad on." He takes me to the $200.00 printer and proceeds to explain why I need to buy that one. I counter by saying that I wanted an inexpensive (under $100 printer) He goes through the entire $200.00 explanation again. I said, "I noticed on their website they had iprint printers for under $100.00." He starts the explanation for the third time. I asked if I needed to leave his store also. At this precise moment a manager swoops down, shows me the printer on sale for $70 that is exactly what I need, which I buy and take home.
It's now all nicely set up and I have downloaded the iprint app from the app store so my ipad prints - Of course since it isn't a high end HP, I can't print directly out of Pages (thanks Steve Jobs) but at least I can print. I must say I am impressed with the speed of the printer (Lexmark) and the fact that it is all now wireless but I swear that tech salesmen will be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.
