Google Drive intrusion

Good morning all.

Over the last year or so, I've found "unpleasant" files left in my Google Drive. Porn, ads, typical childish stupid stuff. The alleged depositor has a name and email I don't know. Sometimes I get a gmail notifying me of the new file in Google Drive; other times the files just appear there and I find them when looking for a file I put there myself.

I can delete the files no problem. I can block the depositor no problem. I don't see anything on Google Drive that says "block drive from others", or "require approval for deposit", etc.

How can I prevent unknowns from putting files in my Google Drive in the first place?

Thanks
Tom M.

Is this a shared drive?

Thanks Walter. I guess it depends on how you define "shared".

I have shared some files and folders with others, by adding their email to the "allowed" list.

But I can't figure out how people with other emails can access the drive.

I'm no expert, but I believe that once someone is added that they can add files, invite other people, etc.

OK- sounds like a major loophole. I "dis-allowed" previously allowed people, but the creeps are still able to get in.

If someone has access to your drive with there email. then any spammers who have there email can spam them and ultimately
your google drive due to the fact they are an allowed depositor.
once the allowed email deed has been done you should dissalow them,

All dis-allowed! But you can only do that after the garbage has been put there.

But how to prevent *anyone* from putting stuff in the google drive? Right now, *no one* has permission - but the garbage keeps coming in.

Seems there should be a "block anyone but you" from getting in there.

Well, finally heard from a real person in the "Google Community" forums.

According to that person, anyone knowing your email address can put anything they want into your google drive. Now *that* is scary.

I've suggested to them a simple way to stop this ... but jeez ...

There are other cloud services. I've been using pCloud for a while. It works with Linux and MacOS (and probably Windows). Had used dropbox until they dropped support for the Linux distribution and file system I was using.

Thanks Bob. Didn't know about pCloud. To me, the issue is strangers having access to drop anything they want into a personal cloud drive. Cloud isn't very secure itself, and if strangers can dump whatever they want into a personal drive - not good.

Didn't/don't have that issue with dropbox and pCloud. Don't understand why Google Drive is configured that way. Doesn't make sense to me.
