heh... I saw a SAAB video recently that took that kind of driving to the next level... I'll have to see if I can find it again...

It wants WMP and I'm running Debian.

I don't understand why people who put these videos online don't use something like mpeg format that we can all view regardless of operating system!

... That being said, I'll check it out when I go out to my workshop ( the laptop is running XP ) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Me no-see neither... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif Java Deficient and not disposed to keep loadin' more 'n more javaatuff every time there's an "updated" script. BAH! Same with so-called "compatable" viewers (read:MS player "slug-in's").

Yup. It means a couple of things.
1.Style of banjo playing that I admire, but don't have the time to master(yet) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
2.Style of auto repair that I resort to only if all else fails /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

All you need is the WMV codec, not the Windows Media Player itself. That is providing of course that you can download the video or force it to play in your preferred player.

BTW, Windows Media Player is free, too! I don't see a reason not to use it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Actually, I need to look again. I'm using Kaffeine and Aviplay to view clips that use the WMV/WMA codecs. For some reason Firefox doesn't seem to use them automatically ( Maybe it's smart)

WMP free?!? It's not free unless you pirated the Windows OS.
Sure. They don't charge you to download WMP, but try to run it without the Windows OS.

Someone paid for that OS( and of course you get to pay for that OS every time MS releases a new security flaw for your delectation ).
 
Well, I paid for Windows so WMP is free for the rest of my life. It's a great player actually.

In the old days I used to seek more streamlined alternatives but these days it does everything the others do and does some of it better! Plus I'm a huge fan of the WMV9 codec, and the WMV-HD stuff is fantastic.

The one thing none of the players ( including WMP ) do that really kills me: They won't talk to my Sony minidisc recorder!

I have a Sony Minidisc also. I haven't used it in some time because it's such a pain to use! You're right, nothing talks to it but the crappy Sony software. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
 
And of course the Sony software I have to use with mine is named : OpenMG /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

It struck me as funny until I tried to use it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif
 
Mine too. Should be named "I am a piece of crap software package that is hard to use and won't do what you want me to do". Well, maybe "OpenMG" is a little better.
