Good source for 1275 motors?

I'm a racer, got lots of 1275 core engines I've been collecting over the nearly 40 years I've been racing, but I don't sell many because I need them for myself and my race customers. My advice is to 1) check with some local salvage yards. They may have some or know where some might be found. Try the older yards, not an LKQ type place first. Since the cars hit their salvage yard peak in the late 1970's and early 1980's, I would go see the older yards first. 2) Go to an SCCA race track (Barber, Daytona, Sebring, Moroso, Homestead, Roebling)and find a Spridget racer and ask if they might have a 1275 engine or know where one might be found. Often a racer might have a core engine they don't have plans for. 3) Check the scrap metal yards. I found a 1275 there one time, paid $7.50 for it.

Have patience and look through the various internet lists as well. BTW, anything less than $2500 for a good rebuilt 1275 with some kind of a warranty is a very good deal.

I've also had other racers (non-Spridget) give/sell me an A-Series engines they came across or knew of as well.

Area British car clubs and shows often turn up good leads.

I was given a block that had some machining done already.
I believe it will be a 1380 when done, so what's that .040 over?
Maybe I'll take some pictures and post here sometime, probably when I start looking for pistons and such.

I sent the check. I picked the Weber carb. Now I have to order an LCB header so I have it all done at once.

YeeHaaaa!

I've taken Mike's approach....patience. In the last two years, I've gained three 1275s.
Two came in parts cars, both in good shape (but I rebuilt both).

The third had sat outside for a year with no oil filler cap, so it was sort of junk, but it was also free (It has a usable head plus other decent parts).

Regarding bore sizes:

The 1380 cc engines are offset-bored. Offset boring, meaning #1 and #2 cylinder is bored offset to front and #3 and #4 offset to rear. You use a special head gasket. Some blocks are not suitable for offset boring since they have thin walls or sleeves so you need to check that out first (yes, you might find a stock, factory engine with a sleeve in it).
You can also get a stroked crank that will give you about 1560 cc. This costs big bucks.

With normal boring:
A 1275 bored 0.020" over is 1293cc.
0.030" over is 1310cc, and 0.040" over is 1328cc,

If its like mine, Bill, the LCB header must be fitted thru the exhaust pipe hole before the engine is installed. Pretty aggravating to find that out later!!

I know right?
He coulda had a rebuilt set of SU's!!

I had my choice from the builder. Either a set of rebuilt HS2's with rich needles or the Weber. I had been, as you know, thinking about going to a single carb anyway just so I don't have to mess with balancing. Going with the Weber means I don't even have to deal with wear issues, tuning, etc., as once they're set, they're done. The LCB header and exhaust system goes in at the same time, and I've ordered the correct Pilot Bush from Gerard for the 1275 to fit the Datsun.

Bill M., now that you've moved out of the Northwest, I'm allowed to have more power than you do in your car.

I agree with Bill M, SU's work best. ( I'm assuming you are talking down draft. Side draft is another matter though still hard to tune.)

Kurt.

:iagree: and they are really expensive. Also, sorry to tell you but Webers wear too.

You will NEVER have more power than me!!!! (it's all a mental thing..., if I say it enough times I may even believe it!)
