YEAH!

On one of my trips to Huntsville, I picked up a DVD set of his old TV show. Great stuff!

Such an obviously sweet man.

The year after I graduated college 34 years ago he did a Saturday night show on campus. I was told by a still in school friend later that he showed up on Wednesday and spent the days before the show wandering campus and popping into dorms and classrooms and just having a grand time meeting and greeting. That's old style celebrity behavior, I can't imagine most of today's young performers spending several days out with the students.

Great stuff!

One of the all time best. I have several DVD's of his old skits.

My grandmother was a piano and organ player for the silent movies, and also worked with Red Skelton on some of his early vaudeville stuff. I don't know much more than that, she has been gone many years, but still a pretty cool story, by all accounts he was a solid guy in addition to being a talented performer.
