WE GOT MY TEMPERATURE GAUGE TO WORK!!!!! So, we replaced the sending unit and the radiator fan switch (along with the grommet and the retaining clip) and the temp gauge worked and the fans kicked on, it was music to my ears and eyes. So dad and I did some more minor tinkering (fixing the weather stripping by the door. I unfortunately found the start of some surface rust and corrosion that was under the threshold trim plate but I think I knocked that out. Kudos for me!) The next day, we went to go fill it up with gas. Everything was working fine. We even noticed that my gas guage worked after we filled it up. So anyways, we get back to the house, I park it and then the most depressing thing happened. As I was getting out, my dad looked over and saw that smoke was coming out of the temp gauge. You see, we didn't install it all the way because we are trying to find new lightbulbs to put in and it's a pain to install and uninstall and back and forth and back and forth as i'm sure you all know. So we opened it up and the thin metal insulated wire that's wrapped around the bimetal strip for some reason started to fry. Anybody have that happen to them of have any ideas why that might have happened?

Ya grounded it out on the fascia my guess.

What do you mean? Which piece of metal was not supposed to be grounded? The instrument case is already grounded. The power leg and load leg are pretty well insulated, I suppose there is a remote chance that one of them touched the fascia somehow. Is that what you're talking about? Thanks for the post!

Just saying that since the gauge was loose it could have possibly touched something behind the wood dash. The MG does have a wood dash doesn't it?

been a long time since I sat in one. Still I feel the same thing happened
