Sitting in my brother's garage today staring at various bits and pieces of what used to be a functioning (badly functioning)but functioning engine for the spitfire I had to ask myself just what have I gotten into.

The head is back from the machineshop with nicely resurfaced valve seats and it has been milled down a few thou to pick up a bit of power. The crank has been micropolished and is ready to be joined with parts that have yet to arrive.

I just talked today with a gentleman who is going to balance the rotating assembly for me the way it should be and has offered to teach me some of the tricks as he does so.

I just wrote a massive check (for me anyhow) to cover all the new parts I ordered from Spitbits. When I see #'s extending 4 places to the left of the dot I tend to think I lost my mind. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Bits and pieces have been cleaned, sanded, primed and painted. Bits and pieces await sanding priming and painting.

My fingers are stiff and sore, my back is killing me, and I think my mind is going....and this is just the engine. Whatever will I do when I get to the really labor intensive stuff like bodywork.

I must be nuts!!! Of course I am I own a Little British Car and I love all this torture.

I just hope I get a chance to drive the spit again before I am in too bad of shape to get in and out of it.

Someone needs to, and dyno it, just so that everyone else can find out how good it really is.

Whenever I see PRI mentioned, it's like being in the playground - I dare you to get it, no I double dare you to get it...

Indeed, I have often felt that at the point when things were all in pieces -- wondering if I got hit by a runaway beer truck whether someone would bother to finish what I had started. Then, bit by bit (and dollar by dollar) it goes back together oh-so-nice.
