Goldie coming up for auction

Not my idea of a sports car. Impressive but...

Saw Goldie when it was finished years ago, at Conclave. Awsome car. Does anybody know do the Phillip's still own the car.

They do not own the car anymore. It was purchased by someone in Texas and was restored.

They must have run out of money because they settled for the “cheap chrome” in the engine area…

ROLF!

Still a cool car though, but I can't imagine the meetings between DMH & Geoff to come up with it; I think they were more prone to talk about prep work for the Mille Miglia, LeMans or Bonneville.

Well there is another one like it built by a restorer here in the US also but he used Brass plating instead of Gold.I recall he had to virtually make the doors from scratch. However,it did not attain the quality level of this car --Keoke

Not my cup of tea but ... I suppose some will think it simply elegant. Wouldn't want to park it at Wally World.

The London amusement and water park Wally World closed about 2003 and auctioned its rides and equipment. There's been no word on who submitted the top bid for Christie Brinkley's Ferrari----Keoke-------

I don't get the appeal. Just like I don't get the appeal of the low rider trucks and similar trash that shows on the lower lot of the local car show that has actual classic cars on the upper lot. Just because something can be done does not mean it should be. The real problem is that a Healey does not need to seen that way, and does not look its best that way. They should have done a Cadillac or Hummer or stretch limo or something. Confused aesthetics don't work for me.

Looking through the archives, you can find just about any car that's been modified in some way. I've even seen a Rolls that was customized to look like a rat rod. Some people could care less what a car should look like or even how rare it is. JMHO. PJ

I think Goldie has to be viewed from its time and purpose. It was built by the Healey works as a special display car for the 1956 London Motor Show. It's very purpose was to be a show stopper and draw attention to the Healey stand. It was later given away as a reader prize by the Daily Express. I'd hazard to guess the company got more than its fair share of publicity and orders based on Goldie.

A story I heard is that a "buyer" for the car was already contracted BEFORE the show and that's how it came to be.
