Going to look at a '73 TR6 tomorrow. What probelem areas should I look at? Car was painted in '03 w/ supposedly little rust. With any luck I'll have TR6 #3 (2 on hand) tomorrow @ around 11:00 a.m.

Look at front fender bottoms, look at floors, look at rear valance, look for seam near were the top folds on the rear deck (you want to see a seam on either side). Also check head light bowls.

Sills under doors also some time go, and check that door gaps are even.

If you can take lots of pictures and post them here.

Upper corners of the rear fenders are great places to collect mud and corrosion. My 69 had corners that were swiss cheese.

Frame can also weaken over time, in the last TR6 I had the door gaps at the top would flex whenever I hit a bump. I didn't like that!

And of course, don't forget to look at the rear differential mounts very very carefully.

Definitely check the frame for rust in the area where the rear trailing arms mount and back.

Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything. That car had nice paint on it and I wanted to make sure I could find anything if it was hidden. The first one I had was super solid. I would have kept it but it needed ~everything~!

Man, what a waste of time and money!

Misrepresented junk!!!!

Car was hit in front and rear w/ valence changed: said no accidents and original sheetmetal.

Said floors solid: one rotted out and the other badly patched

Gaps off badly and P.S door hangs up when jacked up.

Said car drove out good: ran like crap on one carb.

Said good tires: flat spotted from sitting

Diff hump in floor crushed: said it probably was made that way.....with flaked off paint popping off the creases.

I could go on but won't.

The guy has "resources" in auto sales and the British car community, so it's not like he didn't know any better. He had the thing for ten years and knows the right people who would have informed him.

Every seller I've ever met that honestly didn't know about a given defect has automaticaly adjusted price to reflect the now-known condition. I pointed out everything that was wrong with it without mentioning that he said otherwise. This guy didn't budge off his price, which tells me he knew all along.

I still didn't call him on it. I shook his hand and thanked him for his time then left.

Well, at least we got our aniversary weekend booked while we were down there. We wouldn''t have been able to if we waited any longer. It wasn't a total loss.

"Can you come over & view it at night?" is usually another sign
of someone selling a bad car.
Those are the kind of people who get offended if you question their
discription & pricing of the car that they're selling.
