"Going Mobile" Cross-country Road Trip

Hi gang,
A week ago today three friends joined me on a trip across the country. We began our journey in Rehoboth Beach, DE and tonight we are in Salida, Colorado. Our route varies, but we are trying to avoid interstates and fast food. So far we have been pretty successful! US 50 is our primary path west. We have traveled 2,020 miles in the week out of an expected 7,000. We are headed to Eureka, CA to put our toes in the Pacific. Then, we will travel up the coast to Victoria, BC and then back to the east by way of a more northern route.

Today fellow Forum contributor Steve Thomton met us in Manitou Springs, CO in his very hot, white corvette with Colorado goody bags for each of us. He escorted us to a primo photo op site in the Garden of the Gods and then I got to visit his home and workshop to inspect the progress on the development of his BJ7 rally Replica car. I can only say that I have never seen such creativity combined with elegant engineering and fabrication. Truly outstanding work! This car will be a big hit when it is done. Electronic fuel injection and air conditioning are just a few of his personalizations. Steve was a great host - just one more outstanding Healey owner!

Here are a few images of the trip. The first is the logo my brother designed for us. Going Mobile, for those old enough to remember, is a song title performed by The Who.

Other images include our start from Rehoboth, Yours truly in Dodge City with the steer, El Capitan, a shot in The Garden of the Gods, and Steve in his shop with his Healey project. Our group includes my healey, a 70 454 corvette, a 2003 BMW Z8, and a 2009 Maserati GT.

Re: "Going Mobile" Cross-country Road Trip

Having had the opportunity to meet the Going Mobile team, I'm just sorry I didn't have more time to chat with them. We did have a great lunch in Manitou Springs and got to share stories for a bit. What an interesting group!!...GREAT GUYS... and what a great life experience!! I felt honored to be able to be a very small part of their adventure.

Here's hoping for a continued safe and exciting trip! Have fun guys I'll be living vicariously through your blogs.

Cheers,
Steve
