GM Alternator #

Does anyone know the part or model number of the GM/Delco alternator that I want to put on my 1275? Everyone knows about the conversion, but no one seems to be able to help with the number.

The GM alternator you are thinking of is a GM 10si

This alternator has an internal regulator so it's pretty easy to set up. Most of the "one-wire" alternators that are sold are based on this unit. You can get one from Summit Racing.

But I have to be honest, I think these units are a bit too big for a Sprite. Most are around 100 amps (or more). And I'm not sure if it's bad luck, but I've seen at least four of these GM alternators fail on Sprites (jncluding mine).

I prefer the Mitsubishi alternator conversion since it is much smaller and lighter. I've had a 35 amp Mitsu alternator on my car for at least 7 years with no problems. It's been so long, I don't even recall what was invovled in the conversion, but it's basically only two wires. You can find some info on this unit here:

If you going specifically with GM/Delco....
I picked up reman Duralast from Autozone # DL7127M which was based on the Camaro alt.
That's the only number I have Paul.

The cases of the 10SI/12SI series are a bit large on an LBC but they do fit. I believe the unit I've used is the Camaro one as mentioned above. However, I seem to remember the output being closer to 63 Amps, not the high-power 100 Amp unit Nial mentioned above.

Thanks to everyone. I will now go get one (or the other) and forever shutup, maybe.

PS: Or the other that has not been mentioned yet.
