11:45 pm I got the transmission mated up and the last thing to put on before putting it back in and starting it up was the starter  so I dropped a lock washer into the bell housing :wall: no amount of fishing with a magnet would get it. Tomorrow night I'll see if I can separate it an inch or so and shake it out.

Hi There Eric,

"OUCH"!!!!!!

I`m sure It`ll be OK.

Best Wishes,

Russ

Ooooo bummer!!!!!!

I'm suprised the "old fishing with the magnet" trick didn't work. Should have gone to the bottom of the bell housing. Sure it didn't somehow fall OUT of the bell housing? Yea I know, too easy.

Good luck Eric, Tinkerman

Doh! How about one of those flexible grasping tools? I've had some luck fishing parts out of tight spaces with one. I'd try that before separating the bellhousing from the engine plate. Of course, I imagine just being able to see the little thing is a problem... :square:

Hi Eric,

Can't you take the flywheel front (half) cover off and fish it out with a piece of wire worked along under the ring gear?.

Don't know what a Spit access is like, but on another car with something in the bell housing I taped a length of heater hose to a vacuum cleaner and fed it in. The offending item came out sucked onto the end of the heater hose.

Cheers,

Viv.

If the magnet does not work, you can try blowing shop air in there, to maybe dislodge the washer, and get it into a position where the magnet will pick it up.

I did have to pull the transmission back off and there it was. The good news is that it is back in the car after almost 3 months. I hope to be driving this weekend. Here it is
