Getting close with the wiring Just one problem

Shealey

I used a Hot Rod 12 circuit harness kit in the Shealey. I had to make many changes in the harness as these things assume your using a GM switch and signal setup.

I have everything wired to the Healey switches and tested with the exception of the dash warning light. I wired in a 3 prong flasher relay. I used "L" and "X" terminals on the flasher to work the signals. They work fine and blink normal. I used the "P" terminal and ran a wire to a bulb. from the bulb I connected the second wire to a ground.

The first flasher I used was a 6V 3 prong. I had it laying around and it was like 10:00 pm so the parts store was out of the question. When the switch was thrown either right or left the rear turn lamps blink normal, but the test bulb I was using as a dash warning light blinked one flash and stayed off.

Second I picked up a heavy duty 12V 3 prong flasher thinking the 6V one was the problem. That one never even activated the rear lights and the dash warning test bulb never flashed..

Third, thinking the heavy duty flasher may be too much for the two rear bulbs to activate, I picked up a regular 3 prong.

This one worked the right and left rear blinker but the "P" terminal did nothing. Not even one blink like the 6V one did.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm out of em. :wall:

Check the P terminal with a multimeater with the turn signals blinking. Should be 12v of course. Is the ground side of the bulb good?

I'm using an old dome light with a 194 mini bulb in it. I will check the "P" and the bulb socket. I could be that simple?

EDIT: Just checked the flasher with the multi-meter and "P" was functioning as it should. Checked my test light connections and it is now working.

Now if I can speed the wipers up a little...

Checked the diagram for the wipers. I had the switch wired wrong. I was working back and forth between the aweful instruction sheet supplied with the Hot Rod wiring kit and the stock wire diagram. I mixed up a couple wires. Now the wipers drop back in park. :winner1:

Way to go, now you are an expert, hehe.

Well not an expert but I'm getting a lesson. I had the test light working so I wired in the dash light. It worked until I tied it into the harness. Now it quit. Part of the reason I used the hot rod harness is for new modern wiring. (one of the reasons) I figured I'd spend less time chasing gosts. I guess the new wire is catching the gremlins from the old car or I need to re-think the grounds.... This is supposed to be fun right? (kidding)

EDIT: I checked thconnections on the flasher. I reversed the power wire and the dash light is working again.

Then I turned on the key and heard a "ting" I looked over and the gas gauge was pegged on full. So I dig out the tank float and wired it up. It test out good! I'm stoked!
