I'm finally getting off my duff and making a push to get the car road worthy by mid September for the Dillard, GA show. I've got a long way to go. My question is about the ground wires for the battery and new wiring harness. Where they attach to the body work should I sand the paint in those areas down to bare metal for a good contact, or will the screw or bolt be sufficient? Also where is the most common area to fit the engine ground strap?
 
I like to fit the engine ground strap across the motor mount, but originally it was from the bottom crossmember to a bell housing bolt I believe.

There are/were TWO ground straps. One from the battery to the bulkhead and one from the engine/tranny (just under the starter motor) to the chassis rail. Clean the threads in the bulkhead mounting point and the bolts threads and you will get a good ground without removing any paint. Ditto for the chassis mount.

Plus a little dab of Copper anti-seize compound on the threads. Peter
 
Hmm, think my orginial was from a trany bolt about at the tranny mount to the frame. Maybe not, been a long time.

Oh yea, woven copper wire it was.

Boy, you got that right.
 
All of mine have been attached to the tranny at one of the clutch slave mount bolts. If you forget to reattach it after a slave cylinder change, the throttle cable acts as the ground. Gets hot real quick!

Whoo, I remember that. Both the clutch cyl mount bolt and the hot throttle cable. Takes a bit to jog an old memory sometimes.
