gettin in trouble

Found me an early 50s 2-wheel walk behind garden tractor on a local craigslist. Montgomery Ward (made by Simplicity)with a Clinton engine. Gonna go look at it tomorrow. real cheap, needs restoration, comes with a cultivator attachment. Just the small project I need (Like another hole in the head). Wifey's gonna be soooooo happy.
Anybody else soft in the noggin for old ,gas engine powered machinery of any sort? I restored a 1951 Toro sport-lawn, gas powered reel mower last year. It was a fun project.
Now I just gotta stop thinkin about the 61 Falcon wagon I found. daily driver, not too bad shape. $850. Wish I had the $$$ It already be in my driveway.

Yes, sad to say....

Currently well into restoring a (1921 iirc) Fuller and Johnson make and break one lunger that ran a cement mixer. 1.5 horsepower and weighs about 250 lbs. Recently sold an old Fairbanks-Morse that was a little newer.

I still remember the Clinton A-400 (bushings) and A-490 (needle bearings) engines we used in class A karts back in the late fifties.

I have a few friends with ancient Gravely walk-behinds. Sounds like you need one of those, too.

Gravely!! What great machinery! As a kid I was envious of cousins who had a gravely riding rig... I had to push a Lawn Boy around several acres, mum even threatened to deny use of that and force me to use a reel mower if I screw'd up and got C's in any classes.

...she was worse than any drill instructor.

My step-father cut lawns as a side job in the late fifties/early sixties. Had a Rocket reel mower. I was a pup of about 11 or 12 when he turned me loose with that thing - just about dragged me all over the lawn!

Got the monster. It's still in the back of the truck. I diden't get a chance to get any pics. Using the serial number on the gearcase I suspect it's really a Gravely. and closer inspection of the engine makes me think it may really be a Briggs and Stratton. the tags are gone. It's pretty rough. but it'll be a good challenge. I promise I will post pics as soon as I get a chance.

My ex girlfriend's dad had one and offered it to me after her and I broke up. Last thing I needed was a cast iron monument to a failed relationship that would last FOREVER!

OPA - Nice collection! I don't think I've ever seen a Judson in the flesh.

Here's one I saw a while back that I'd like in my shop. Anyone know what it is? Shouldn't be too hard for this crowd...

Also used in earlier Lotus (& other) cars like the VIII, IX, and Eleven.

It's the only engine I know of with the image of a naked lady on the cam cover. (Lady Godiva)

Thanks,A Judson is actually a rebadged Stover casting with a few minor changes. Judson was a Canadian company based in Winnipeg Manitoba so quite likely not many went to the USA.They are relatively rare here on the West coast but lots in Saskatchewan and of Manitoba. I picked this one up in Vancouver from a retired prairie farmer.A couple more pics of old toys.First pic 1926 John Deere 3hp and a few of my wheeled toys, second pic 1939 Case model D, third pic 1932 Worthington yep that's me #4 1928 Model AA with wrecker #5 my '28 Hart Parr, my brother's '42 John Deere A and the Worthington. Collecting old iron gets addictive I tell ya.....

I'm in Chilliwack about 20 miles east of Abbotsford.The pics I posted are at the museum next to Heritage Park at exit 116 off of hwy one.The museum is called Atchelitz Threshermens Assoc which includes Chilliwack Antique powerland.
