Tried this silly game. There seems to be no corrolation between the mouse movements and the movement of the drunk. Best I have done is 14 meters. My mouse must not be able to walk in German.

You need to use much wider movements of the mouse than you think, especially at the beginning. I would swing the cursor to the right, but that initial swerve would drag Hermann right down. Once you've got him walking along a straightish path, little movements are needed. Until he starts to swerve again, when a big swing is needed. Rather like being drunk, in fact.
