German Shotgun. Any collectors out there?

I recently inherited my dads gun collection. In the collection is a German made shotgun. It's a double barrel side by side. The markings on one side say "Consul Waffen-West Germany". On the other side it says, Model-Monte Carlo. Underneath and just in front of the trigger guard is an engraving of a bird dog. It's about 30 years old and was a gift to him from a friend who brought it over from Germany. It is in pristine condition and has only been fired three times. Anyone know of the manufacturer of this gun? I will try to post some photos and more info. if needed. PJ

I forgot to mention that the gun will not be offered for sale, but I have to value it for insurance purposes.

It looks like the Monte Carlo is a certain design for a shotgun. It was intended so shooters would experience less felt recoil to the cheek.

Steve, I have feelers out on various web sites for information. A big drawback on the web is, every time the word Waffen, which is inscribed on one side, is mentioned, the old German SS pops up and I would definitely assume there's NO connection seeing that the gun is approximately 30 years old. My dad, who is 92, has no recollection of things past. The friend who gave it to him is not with us anymore. So, sooner or later, someone will come up with some answers. I need to take photos. PJ

Since the word "Waffen" literally means "weapon" in German, could the manufacturers name be Consul?

Perhaps this link will be of help:

Thanks Mike, By coincidence, I already contacted that site and gave them what info. I have. I'm waiting on a return message from them. I also thought that Consul would be the manufacture, but I've had no luck on the name. I'll just have to wait until someone who knows jumps in.

If it were a Browning A-5 Autoloader I could help. {I collect and have several}. Not having a specific brand name, IE. Merkel, Krieghoff, Meisterwerkflinte, is puzzeling to me. Look closer, sometimes on the barrel although most FINE shotguns the manufacturers names are clearly marked on the frame of the gun. {If it were a FINE COLLECTABLE the manufaturer name would be EASILY found by searching the net} Not to say it isn`t a fine gun and certainly collectable at least to you.
As for insurance purposes, insure it for the ammount thats comfortable to you as a momento or keepsake. {I know, hard to put a value on something like that}.
Purchasing a collectable shotgun for the insurance companys recomended values and the collectors actual value is two completely different things.
Again insure it for what it is worth to you.
