George Barris RIP

Last time I saw George was on American Pickers when they bought the coffin car. His name is an icon in the custom car industry and I'm sure it will remain so for many years to come. May he rest in peace. PJ

The custom car world won't be the same without him, RIP George.

My favorite Barris design:

I like this and the Hirohata Merc better than the movie cars.

R.I.P. George

but he sure made some pretty grotesque stuff too.

George was definitely missed at SEMA this year. He and Linda Vaughn would almost always appear together....another Good Guy lost.

I saw the King of Kustoms at a car-guy event a few years back. Not wanting to push through a crowd of well-wishers, I was content to stand back and watch him greet folks. His smile and enthusiasm were infectious. You could tell he genuinely liked meeting his fans.

In an age when so much attention is lavished on people who are famous just for being famous, it's nice to see people appreciate a guy who's famous for his creativity and craftsmanship.

Artist, craftsman, showman and a bit of a huslter, quick with a friendly smile and heartfelt compliment, he was always in it to have fun. He will be missed.

Thanks for a whole lot of fun, George.
