Generator polarity question

I went through thr steps to make my '66 AU sprite negative ground. I was wondering how I can check to see if the polarity change worked. I'm assuming that it did but that little spark just didn't convince me entirely.

Thanks

Jman

Can't that I know of, but the little spark does it.

Start the car and see if the generator charges. Sometimes you have to polarize it a couple of more times, as the field pole shoes have residual magnetism in them and sometimes can be reluctant to change polarity.

Edit: Does the car have an ammeter?? If so, did you switch the wires on the back of it?? If you didn't, the generator will show discharge if it is indeed charging, and charging when it not charging.

Put a VOM on the battery. 12.5V not running (if the battery's okay), 13.5~14V at 2K RPM. "Quick-n-Dirty"! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

The volt meter on the battery while running is a good method to check that you're really charging.
