It has seemed to me lately that my infatuation with cars had slipped considerably from where it was years ago, whe I had to get to every car show, race, check out any classic in a parking lot.....etc...
I seemed to have all but lost the "gearhead" desire, and even though I enjoy tinkering on things, I really don't care much one way or another about shows or events. Especially with muscle cars and big ol' American boats. If anything I gravitate to the oddballs and micro cars.
But I had a bit of a reality check yesterday. That ingrained love of mechanical things is lurking in there somewhere.
I was at the college, getting ready for my lab, and I headed down the hall to the teachers office to see if there were any notes left for me. As I came to the office door, I looked in the classroom across the hall, and there on the front desk was an intake and carbs. But not just any intake.. It was an Offenhauser tri-power with 3 Rochester 2BBL carbs perched on top.... Jaw to the floor...Eyes rolling over every dusty, barn fresh inch, fingers moving the linkage ans seeing how all the throttle plates activated....
Ahhhhh.... nice.
I guess that never leaves you.
Sorry for the long story, but it's fun to write about this stuff.

You never get over it. Buying the MGB was the final step in my fully embracing my gear headedness.
