TR2/3/3A Gearbox speedo drive seal

My gearbox speedo drive seal appears to be leaking so I plan to replace both the o-ring and the oil seal on the drive. My question is: can I raise the rear of the car high enough so gearbox oil does not leak out when I remove the speedo drive? If so, approximately how high would it have to be raised?

I am not with my car to look so as to answer your question. However, you should just let as much oil out of your gearbox as needed to do the work. If you jack up the back of the car, at some point oil will come out the input shaft seal and get into the bell housing, probably by way of draining down the clutch assembly. Oily clutch = slippy clutch = not much labor saved by not draining the tranny.
