IM trying to replace the clutch disc preasure plate and TO bearing. Is there anyway to do this without pulling the engine? it seems that on at least the 70 the starter 'bubble' on the trany gets stuck. rotating makes it bind. im hoping Im missing something easy so i can line up the new clutch parts and replace the tranny as easily as possible.

I find it far easier to take the gearbox out with the engine.
It takes about half a day to do the clutch change.
I think the way the car is built, this is the only way.
All the best, Ross.

I understand that it is possible if you get it rotated just right but I have always removed the engine and tranny together and then the clutch goes in with everything out on the floor where it is easier to work with. Just make sure your beams in the garage are strong enough.

As the others said, make it easy on yourself and pull the engine and tranny together.
