TR4/4A Gearbox input shaft pilot bush....

I think this might have been discussed before but.... is this bushing supposed to be a force fit...that is,it is not supposed to turn and if so is there a way to "stake" it so it dosn't move? I assume a small amount of grease goes in the center of the bush.
Reason I ask is that the PO was running the car with one gearbox rear mount bolt missing and I believe that gearbox movement caused the existing bush to "oval" out.:concern:
 
Pilot bushes are generally made of Oilite bronze and require a 24 hour soak in oil prior to installation. If the bush has ovaled out its probably from lack of lubrication and possibly a misalignment due to the missing gearbox bolt. Bushings can be a very tight fit in the crank, but I've seen several new bushings that just slide in with little effort...they should also rotate on the shaft easily. A little extra grease shouldn't hurt anything as long as you don't use too much. The bushing should not be staked in, IMHO.

Agreed, just slide in fit. You might want to check front bearing for wear or fit. Don't think rear mount bolt would give much pressure to oval out bushing.
