My RPM and fuel gauge only works some of the time. One never works without the other. They are both either working or not working. Just wondering if anyone knows what my problem is.
Thanks,
DAN

Hey Dan,

First things first I'd go after the simplest stuff. This advice might vary depending on what year you’re car is, but I’d check & clean your fuse block before you go to any great expense replacing things.

"LUCAS Lore: Remember just because a fuse looks good and might even measure out good - dosn't mean it is good." /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

On my 78B both the tachometer and the fuel gauges share the same fuse. Venturing to guess (without trotting out to the garage this late at night) I think that fuse would be either the #2 or #3 position down from the top of the fuse block. Looking at the schematic I bet you'll also find a few other things don't work either when those items are acting up.

Anyway I’d be safe - just go ahead and replace all of your fuses and clean all of the contacts in the block as well as the quick disconnects going to the block. Just about any over the counter electrical contact cleaner will work fine. Radio Shack has some that will work fine and is somewhat cheap. Also I’d also recommend picking up a cheap volt/amp/ohm meter too. Great tool especially if you have a good schematic.

Just so ya know this little exercise cleared up about half of my electrical problems the first week I owned my MG.
