What year did TR6 gauge rings go from painted black to chrome?

'and will the Chrome gauges work in a 71' TR6? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

As always "Thank you for yer support" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

The first year for the ring change was 1973. They will fit on both style gauges and in the hole.
Any particular reason why you would be looking to make a change, if I may ask?

The original gauges in my car dont look or work very well.

I purchased a set of chrome ones as a find from a friend for next to nothing.

so I was thinking of changing them out...

I know I'll have to recalibrate the speedo /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

kodanja, why not use the new ones but change the rings. If the paint is bad, clean or strip them and paint satin black. Some are just a pain to get apart but a little careful prying of the little fingers they come away with a turn. The gaskets are probably shoot on both sets and most auto retailers have a large selection of "O" rings that will work. This will also allow you to clean the glass and the gauge. The paint on the gauge will be very fragile, so use only a fine artist brush to clean the face of dust. Wayne

The faces inside the original gauges are corroded and beyond repair, but the new set of chrome ones are in great shape,
My car is not up to original standards by far' (it's a driver) and I kinda like the way the chrome one's look over the painted black ones...

I guess I just needed to know if the later model gauges would fit and work in my 71' TR6 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

I've found that using window screen spline between the chrome/black bezel and the glass works better than o-rings. It's available in many different sizes (in fact, Lowes and Home Depot carry different sizes from each other). Like Trrdster2000 said, on any of these old gauges, clean gauge faces by dry dusting if possible and only with water on a q-tip if necessary. Never use detergents or cleaning chemicals.
