Gauge Face Coating after Cleaning?

I cannot remember which forum on this board where the topic was discussed but somewhere I remember a discussion about what to apply to the face of Smiths gauges after cleaning to prevent the white lettering from continuing to flake off.

I seem to remember that someone on the board suggested using something like hair spray. Does anyone remember what was suggested or have other suggestions for a protective coating that would restore that nice satin finish without causing the lettering to be damaged?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Doug, I wouldn't use hair spray, especially with how it can yellow when exposed to direct sun. I used Pledge for Electronics and then Pledge with Anti Dust Protection on my gauge refurbishing project a few years ago and they still look like new.

Thanks Paul. It might be one of your old posts that I was remembering. I don't know why I thought it was hair spray.
