Just noticed when shopping for a Payen Head Gasket set for my 1275 engine they're advertising two types, same price.

One says copper, the other doesn't. Any recommendations?
What about the lower Gasket set? Unless anyway has other choices, I'll get a Payen set also.
 
Hmmm, Payen/Felpro gaskets are composit. While they may have some copper, it's several materials. I'm not sure why they would have it listed as copper.

When I recently "refreshed" my B engine I used a Felpro set upper and lower. Definitely nicer gaskets. For the few bux more that they cost I would definitely recommend them, especially for the head gasket alone. It's very forgiving.

Does the lower gasket set include the oil pan gasket? Seems to me I remember someone mentioning a rubber gasket
vs. cork.
 
Sealed Power owns Fel-Pro and Payen....so for all practical puposes the gaskets for British cars are Payen made and the same in a Payen set and a Fel-Pro set. Typically then, the Payen sets/pieces are for the European/Austrail-asian market and the FP for the USA market. but there is crossover as Moss and VB import the Payen packaged sets.

I think that all Payen offers in a 1275 HG is a copper jacket one side and a steel on the other.

The only difference here might be the pan end seals.....Payen/FP will have rubber with a metal spine , brand x will have trimmable cork pices. The rubber is easier to use/fit.

For a street motor a lot of it is the person behind the wrench.

Having purchased both for my 1500, I can say that this is not so. Scrape a Fel-Pro head gasket off and you will agree with me that it's Payen or nothing.
