THe overdrive type A was produced without any gasket between the brake plate and the aluminum housings. The brake plate being cast iron has different expansion rates than the aluminum housing and may contribute to possible leaks. Has anyone fabricated gaskets for use on each side of the brake ring and what we're the results? Are there any obvious problems that the gaskets would cause?

I haven't. Laycock specifically warned against using "jointing compound" on the brake ring, and it fits pretty tightly. I've never seen one leak. One potential problem is that any gasket thickness would change the sunwheel end float, which only has a .006" tolerance (and is kind of hard to measure anyway).
