Gasket around turn signal lamps

Anyone think up a good substitute for the gasket that goes around the turn signal lamps for a Box Sprite. When I peeled off the exisitng ones for my <$50 paint job attempt they got destroyed. Gaskets will likely cost more than hte paint job. Thin foam that the usual suspects must want $10 apiece for. Looking around the shop I'm thinking thin rubber, possibly one of those foam liners out of my Craftsman toolbox drawer. Any other thoughts for a cheap source that I can cut up for the We-Tight crowd?

Some time ago I got a roll of several square feet of rubber at the auto paint store that I have made some of those body gaskets from. Of course, don't let the paint store know you are considering the $50 method or they might not even sell to you ;-)

Frank,

Much better substitute. I'm sure I can find one or two of those around here. Thanks again.
