Please bring me up to speed. Why is a gasket needed under the metal straps? What is it's purpose? I don't see it listed in the Moss catalog.
I'm willing to give and take a bit, being it will be hidden under the trunk armacord. So the leather strap you mention Keoke sounds the simplest to find and install. I would guess the leather should be thin, so as not to see the elevation it will make under the two metal straps. Looking forward to the reply.

Moss doesn't list it separately, only as part of the strap.
The tank is rather loosely held in it's place by the straps. It can move around a bit during violent bumps or vibration. The padding cushions the strap (prevents metal to metal contact) so that it doesn't wear the tank or cause squeeks. There is also padding between the bottom of the tank & the floor. Both to seal the floor opening & give a bit of metal to metal separation. A full tank, maybe 70 pounds, is a lot of weight to have bouncing around in the back.
Not a great design but we are pretty much stuck with it.
