Gas running from carburator tube??

I recently helped a friend of mine get her 1976 MGB running after sitting for 2 years. It is running rough, and when initially started we had gasoline running (shooting) out of a small tube toward the bottom of the front carb (no gas running from the rear). I let the car warm up, and cleaned the outside of the carb and throttle body with carb cleaner and it seems to have stopped, but I am concerned about it....possibly a stuck needle valve or float?? Should I rebuild the carb(s)?? Any insight would help. Thanks!!

Terry,

Welcome to the forum.

The problem may have been a stuck float/needle valve which cured itself. You could just keep an eye on it & see if it happens again.

Or you could remove the float chamber tops, note how the parts come out & which way they go, & clean the needles & seats, & inside of float chambers.

It may continue to happen if there is no fuel filter inline with the lines to the carbs - or maybe no more problems.

Could go into a lot of other possibilities but just try the easy stuff first.
