Gas Pedal Pad

I bought a '69 series II E-type in 1974. At the time of the purchase and ever since the brake and clutch pedal have had rubber pads on them and the gas pedal has always been bare. Recently I received a flyer from Welsh featuring a rubber gas pedal pad with E-Type logo for a Series II. Did this model originally come with this pad or is it an aftermarket add on?

Aftermarket of all series 1 and 2 I do believe as I've never seen a stock E with one.

For what it's worth ...

You push your foot down on the clutch pedal to release the clutch. You push your foot down on the brake pedal to slow/stop the car. In neither case do you want your foot to slide on the pedal surface.

But your foot rests on the gas pedal; as you push down, your shoe "glides" on the bare metal pedal surface. That's the way it was on many cars of the 1940s, 50s, 60s and early 70s.

Bare metal surface isn't "pretty" - but sliding the shoe on bare metal is more efficient at controlling speed than on a rubber surface.

I'm thinking that the Series 3 E-Types had a pad on the accelerator.
