TR6 Gas on spark plugs

Hi....Last fall I had rebuilt HS4 carbs put on my 70 TR6.....on way home it stalled and turned out rust from gas tank had clogged lines. Took it back and had new gas tank and fuel filter put on and it ran fine. I started it several times through the winter and took a couple trips around the block as weather permitted. Last time I started it ran very rough and had to keep revving it to keep it running when came to stop. It starts fine but very rough running. I pulled spark plugs and all had gas smell and some gas on them as well as being fouled. I was told by a mechanic that saw it started that I was getting to much gas and he could smell it in exhaust.....any ideas where to start? I just changed plugs and am going to try running it tday weather permitting. Any help appreciated!!!!
 
Pull out the engine oil level dipstick and see if you can smell gas in the oil on the dipstick....If you do the oil was contaminated and diluted by gas from the flooded carbs...and it would be best to avoid driving until the oil was changed and the carbs fixed.
 
Any problem is probably in just one carb. You can remove the filters and look down the carb throats to see if the intake is wet with fuel. That's the one to remove. To check the float and float valve, you will have to take off the carb, turn it over, and remove the float bowl. Then you can see if the valve is stuck and if the floats are saturated with fuel. Be careful; there will be a lot of fuel left in the carb and it will spill everywhere.

If the float valve is stuck, it's probably best to replace it. You can unstick it, and it will work for a while, but it will probably stick again. Also check the float height.

This would be a good time to get a shop manual, if you don't have one already. There is also lots of info on-line.

Yes, as Ken says, gas in the oil is a real possibility. If the oil is contaminated, it MUST be changed.
