Gas Line Broke, it just broke...

My 1973 GT6 MKIII had a really crappy rubber gas hose from the tank to the steel line. I changed the line to a high-heat stainless braided line, later my dad went to rig it up and put in the heatshield and the hard steel line BROKE.

Being this old, it isn't surprising but it is annoying. I was wondering if anyone else has had this kind of problem, and is there a better way than replacing the broken line in the same fashion as it was originally hooked up?

Steel lines last a long time (in this case 32 years.) I wouldn't hesitate to use another steel line.
 
There are vendors that claim to have OEM (like) replacements. Surely some one will be happy to relate the new gas line install experienced by them. Knock on wood, I have not broken mine yet.
 
I like your '69 Vette, it reminds me of my dad's '68 Corvette L68 Convertible with the 427 Aluminum Block that looked identical to yours other than the color. That car would spin the tires between every gear change.
