I need a new filter for fuel line near the carbs. the present one is clear plastic and I've been looking for a replacement for a year. They are either cloudy white and sediment not visible or metal. I saw Home Depot has a clear one for lawn mowers. I'm not sure what the conector tube diameter is but it looked right. Is there a problem using one of these?
Thanks,
Rich, (TH)

Just go to a VW supply house TH, and they will have all of those clear ones you need. They use to be about a Buck apiece, but expect to pay about Three now. The only problem I know of is they be hard to find cuz they are cheep---Fwiw--Keoke /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Tahoe

Wix 33011 or NAPA 3011. They aren't exactly clear, but you can see the sediment when there is fuel present.

Got mine at CarQuest.

Get two especially if your tank has not been replaced. All that tank prep solution used to "restore" tanks flake off and clog the filters and pick up filters. If it has not been "restored" then the rust flakes will clog it. In a caravan of 12 cars over 2000 miles two cars were in need of these filters last summer.

keoke,
there are 2 sizes over here, one is for metric and the other for imperial`size fuel hose,(experience from owning a vw bug!) and both being after market require hose clips fitted irregardless of them being a bayonet fitment originally without clips/clamps

I guess my question is, are there differences in the fuel filters as there is in the oil filters as capacity and flow rate? Will a mower/snow blower filter work or is it too small? Closest VW dealer is 35 miles away. But if you want a chain saw or snow blower fixed the are on every corner. We do have two Napa and a Kragen but the only have the white or metal.

TH , gotta be for a VW bug. Dont know about thos other types. But you could check the size of the necks on each against the one you have if they are the same go for it. Like BH Says get two!---Fwiw---Keoke

T.H.,

Don't know if the Pep Boys chain is on the left coast but they have em plus replacement packs of filter elements. I can't
remember if they were three or four dollars but they were cheap.
