I know a bunch of folks have rechromed their bumpers and
vavle covers.

Has any one ever rechomed their gas caps, or lug nuts
or door handles?? In the ballpark- what's it cost?

thanks

dale

I am just about done with a full frame-off resto. About two years ago I did rechrome my gas cap. It came out great. I did it since it is a focal part of the car. I just couldn't put the pitted one back on with a fresh paint job. Cost two years ago was about $75. Today I know it will be lots more. It's also easier to do when the car is apart since getting the cap out requires some work in the trunk to remove the panels, etc.
The door handles I just took to a polish wheel and they came out OK... not great, but acceptable. Bumpers were also rechromed.

Dale- Two Thoughts:
1. Do you have somebody on the island that does that?
2. If you do it is probably cheap as PR can't have the same EPA problems the continent does.

Dale, big problem is that those caps are pot metal and expensive to replate. At least around here. I was quoted $200 so I bought a new one from TRF. If the stuff is brass, generally $30 to $50. Lug nuts would be cheaper. Again thats the Knoxville, TN area.

Cheers, Tinkerman

Don: The EPA requirements are more onerous on PR than the 48. Generally speaking, toxic materials are shipped off island for disposal which is very expensive.

Don- we have MUCH higher EPA standards because of our coral reefs,
huge estuaries and wetlands everywhere along the coast.

No one chromes that I am aware.
PS: PR is is an island --NOTHING is cheap here.

Keep watching ebay Dale, these items in great condition come up from time to time.

That why I stated my #'s.
If 1 then 2.
If not one because of 2.

Door handles and lug nuts are probably best to replace with new. Door handles are inexpensive and tend to crack over time at the mounting point.
Lug nuts disfigure and fatigue over time. Plus you would have to contend with chrome bunging up the threads.

over to Leadville,CO and the Faro tables. Probably take me a week to sort things out.

My cap is an original and starting to pit.
