Gas cap fiber washer

My TR-3 is a 1960 by title and 1959 by serial number. The gas cap is the type that then has an escutcheon, goes down through body and below is a "fiber washer" then extention that goes into the rubber connector to the tank. TRF, Moss nor British Victoria have the fiber washer. Does any one know of a source? Or has anyone made one and out of what material? Thanks Tom

When I was putting that arrangement back together, I made gasket washers, top AND bottom, out of 1/16" composite cork sheet. Worked fine...

I swear I just read this?

As I recall there was a recent post about that o-ring/seal where the hinged cap closes against the fixture.

For a fiber washer I made one out of gasket paper, the dark grey sort about millimeter thick.

I just had a post about the rope type seal that goes between the top of the cap and the spring loaded brass piece. I followed Geo's idea and made mine out of an old flat o-ring from my pool pump.

I kind of like Moseso idea about making a gasket. Not sure about the cork though. It will retain to much water, or spilled gas. I do have the original ring but it's only about 1/8" wide. I'm not sure where you could find one like the original. The big three don't sell them. Maybe something in the plumbing section at the local hardware store.

Thanks George. Sounded like the same post

This gasket cutter is like the one I have. Mine does a great job and is easy to use. If I remember it was over $200 new. Mine came with a board that has a metal insert in the center for the pivot pin. Can't tell if it is included here or not but it would not be hard to make one.

It makes round gaskets and I use a punch to make any holes that might be needed.
