That <span style="font-style: italic">is</span> slow! I updated my GPSMAP-496 from a DVD last year and it didn't seem to take that long. I think they're using basically the same database too.

I had gone through that when I got my son's Garmin when he left for Japan. Once I got the registration transferred to me (he forgot his password and had no paperwork anymore) I subscribed to the online updates, and now have a local major bypass appearing on screen without the Garmin telling me to find someway to the next street. It was fun to drive across vacant farmland according to the GPS.
