Your "midget room" is bigger than my Big Healey garage:

I've done a lot more work since this was taken- so there's even less room around it now, but still lots to do yet...

What is the ceiling made from?
Vince [/QUOTE]

Each area in the GarageMahal is getting a different ceiling treatment to further the different 'room' experience - I wanted this area to have an old style garage feel....however, I'm especially proud of the ceiling for 2 reasons: the first was expense - it was CHEAP! The second was ease of installation.

The ceiling is simply 4x8x5/8" OSB strand board that you buy at Lowe's for around $6 or $7 per sheet (I bought a bundle of 65 sheets for $5 per sheet since my primary use for it is on the walls to provide strength behind the corrugated tin, pegboard, & paneling - actually, you can see the unpainted strand board on the walls of the 'Center Room')....using it on the ceiling was an after thought...its nailed directly to the trusses & where the various 4x8 sheets come together, I used 1/4" OSB strand board cut 2" wide x 8' long (I bought 2 or 3 4x8 sheets to cut them from).

It took 2 coats of white primer & then 2 coats of flat white paint - I used a total of 4 gallons on it - along with lots of silicone caulk at all the places where the different pieces of wood come together.

I probably did the entire 32'x40' ceiling area for less than $200!

Re: GarageMahal Update

Oh, the lighting is indirect flourescent on the wall above the beam that supports the opening into the 'Midget Room' along with the round 'spot' lights along the work area ceiling....if you walk into the 'Midget Room' & turn around, you can see the light fixtures on the wall above the beam....they're the same units in the ceiling of the 'Center Room'.

Re: GarageMahal Update

Looks great! I ask because I need to insulate my walls & ceiling & then cover. Garage is big enough that it will cost a small fortune unless I find a cheap alternative to both insulate & wall.
Glue & screw or just screwed up? If you screwed did you caulk over the nails?

Re: GarageMahal Update

Used air nail gun - caulked over the nail holes.

Re: GarageMahal Update

Well, I drew a sketch of the floorplan on my computer & tried to attach it to a post...but its a 'bitmap' & I can't attach it...so, I'll keep trying (was pretty happy with myself that I even was able to figure out how to draw it on the computer!!)

Re: GarageMahal Update

When you save it, select "save as" and then below the file name select "jpg file". That should do the trick.

Re: GarageMahal Update

I am soooo jeaolous of your facilities, Tony!

My space is so limited (the 911 takes up all remaining space in the garage) that Harold is forced to live in the back garden :-(

I'd give my left nut for a big workshop/garage. (I'm exaggerating, but only slightly.)

Heck Julian, i can get you plenty of space for a lot less then that. You give me your 911 and I will get you some garage space. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Hmmm ... tempting, for a few nanoseconds

Hopefully, this works (not to scale):

Re: GarageMahal Update

HEY! HEY! HEY! IT WORKED!!!

GarageMahal has internet-capable computer, telephone/copier/FAX, DISH Network TV's, Bose stereo, refrigerator....hmmmm, almost a complete dog house!! hehehe

Oh, the main building (28x54) has a 2nd floor (18x54) with a roughed in apartment (not yet finished) & a huge open storage area where Jerri keeps her out-of-season clothes & I keep my personal stash of parts for the MG Museum cars!

Re: GarageMahal Update

Heck, you don't even need a house with that setup... it's enough to make a man think of robbing a few banks. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Re: GarageMahal Update

I'd like to know about a cheap floor process also.

Re: GarageMahal Update

And let me tell you the shop area is to die for. Just think of all the parts that pass through there.

Standing at the parts processing area and looking out through the main area it goes on forever. There are so many cars that you don't know what to look at so you really look at none well.

What he forgot to say is that there is a bit of a lounge area in the main showroom with TV and orential rugs, hehe.
