Hi all,

Just saw this Spitfire on the local Craigslist.

Anyone interested?

Sounds like it's in very good shape. It's described as "like new", one-owner (I think), garage-kept from new, runs "like new", never any damage, red w/tan interior. Asking $4500.

Might be a good deal for anyone not wanting a resotration project. Sorry, I don't know any more than what's in the ad.

Whoops... '73, not '71.

Oooh, that DOES look nice. Ad says '73; arguably that's about the best year of the "squaretail" Spitfires. It's the first year in the US for the 1500 and the seats with adjustable headrests, but it still "lacks" any of the heavier bumpers and associated bits, so it's rather lighter in weight than the later ones.

Wow. That is nice. The older MK4's are really getting rare up here - my '73 looks very similar to this car. Door plate says 1972, insurance says 1973.

Nice to see an older Mk4 in good shape.

Adam, that's your car in the attachment? Also VERY NICE! Does it have the FM prefix in the commission number? If so, it's a '73 model, even though it might give a "build date" in 1972 on the commission number plate.

Re: FYI - "Like new" '71 Spitfire, SF Bay area, $4

Wish I lived closer. It would make a nice car for my wife. I would drive my TR6 and she could drive the spit. Oh Well

Re: FYI - "Like new" '71 Spitfire, SF Bay area, $4

Thanks, Andrew.

It does have an "FM" prefix. The commision number is FM 989.

I'm glad you like it.

Thanks for that info, Andrew.

I knew when I saw this car for the first time it was an early 1500, but I did not know that the 1500's started in such an obvious place(FM #1).

I can feel better about putting my time, effort and money in then!

Thanks,

Adam H.
