"Fuzzy" fuel:

I'm posting it here 'cause it is across the board info.

Went over to Cowboy's place Thursday to look over his Sprite and fix a fuel leak. Car has sat for months, his B is the toy and the Sprite is going up for sale. The cause of the leak: DPO fuel pump/line replacement. They used a "Zebra" clamp too big for the application. It wouldn't tighten down to the diameter of the line. Bad engineering practice, that. After the proper clamp was installed we tried to start the li'l monster. Nope. No joy. Fuel TO the bowls, just getting none up the jet tubes. Full choke produced a hesitant attempt to fire. What had happened was the fuel had become "jellied" somewhat right at the top of the jet orifice. Vacuum wasn't enough at cranking speed to draw fuel thru the goo past the needles. A bit of carb cleaner on a "Q-Tip" stick and some profane words over fuel blends wot rot to goo in months and it was running again. Puzzlement over a no-start condition after a storage period may be alleviated with this info.

Use "Stabil" or other gas conditioner if you intend to let an LBC sit for more than a month. It'll save a lot of head scratchin'.

Re: "Fuzzy" fuel:

Doc - was the car sitting inside or outside? I'm assuming you're somewhere near the ocean or gulf? Wondered if being in a cold, dry winter climate would cause the same problem.

Re: "Fuzzy" fuel:

It had been indoors for most of the time but sat outside (under a roof in a "pole barn") for a couple weeks before I got to it. The issue with the jet orifice muck may have been due to the two combined.
