fusing a volt meter

Should a volt meter be fused? If so, where? I am thinking of comming off the brown wire that is used for the radio, fuse (what size?), meter, to ground.
Thanks,
TH

I would not use a fuse between a voltmeter and it's connection. The less electrical connections in line with a volt meter the better. The fuse holder connections will not be 0 ohms to start with and will get slowly worse over time. You should not have to worry about protecting the voltmeter under normal circumstances.
If you are concerned enough to fuse something, fuse the main brown feed from the starter to the voltage regulator or fuse the
outputs from the voltage regulator.
Other's opinions may vary.
I was considering one also but couldn't think of a good place to mount it.
Where are you going to mount it ?

Ed

Hi TH,
I went with a white wire so the meter isn't always on. I tapped in between the ignition and the tach.

P.S. I can't remember what the fuse size was, but probably small, like a 5 amp.

I have a vintage mounting that will fit below the wood dash (BJ8) to the right of the wheel. The mounting screws even line up with the original screws holding the chrome. Holds two gauges. One wil be a clock.
Thanks for the tip on the white wire.
