Fuel Tank Installation

A friend of mine just asked me how the fuel tank is installed on a big Healey. It has been a long time since I had mine apart so I thought I would ask you guys: Doesn't the tank sit down in a "well" with a foam/rubber seal under it and then strapped in with a rubber strip under the straps? Then the vinyl trunk lining is lain over the top of it. Is that how it is installed in the car? I would appreciate your help in answering his question. Thanks, Stever

Stever,
You are correct. The foam rubber seal is installed around the opening in the floor of the trunk. The tank is then placed on top of the foam rubber. The straps have a paper gasket-like material on the side that sits against the tank. These attach to the rear bulkhead via brackets and cotter pins. The straps go around the tank and bolt through the rear of the trunk floor. The armacord lining is placed over the tank. In a BN1 or 2, this is armacord, in a BN4-BJ8, this is a board wrapped in armacord.

Hi Guys,
My "somewhat" reliable sources show that the BN6 & BN7 had a plywood floor panel with Armacord glued over the top. Other models had only the Armacord.

The floorboard on my wife's BN7 is painted plywood with loose-layed and bound armacord over. BTW I used adhesive-backed foam weatherstripping material both to seat the tank on and to put under the hold-down straps.
