I recently decided to swap out the old fuel cell for a period gas tank. The repro fuel filler pipe did not come with any breather tube to facilitate filling the tank without blow back. Did the original 1960s Healey tank/filler pipe come with a breather pipe? I know most US cars did.

Actually Jim, my 1960 BN 7 had a gas cap (original) with a small hole in it to provide air even when closed. It's a small hole so no fuel will back up and out. Never use a gasket that will cover this hole, it's important.

No breather tube, the filler pipe is large enough to vent the tank while filling, especially since the pump filler nozzle is so small these days.

Breather tubes would only be required with the filler pipe has the unleaded-gas-only restrictor plate.

Not sure what the pump pressures are like over your side of the pond, but over here you have to let the GO Juice flow in at a reasonably steady rate or you do get a blow back/pump cut out.
