fuel pumps

Hi everyone
Can I please have you opinion on fuel pumps. i'm working on a late model BN4 which is supposed to have a LCS fuel pump and that's fine, but I am wondering if an ordinary SU HP fuel pump will supply enough fuel for the HD6 carbies. I know the first BN4s had them and I wonder how necessary the LCS type is, being that it's twice the price as an ordinary pump. I want to stay with SU, I have an electronic one on my MGA and have been very happy with it. I don't want to go with a facet etc. So, if there is anyone out there who has fitted a SU pump, not the LCS I would be interested in your experience.
Cheers
Matthew

I know that in the U.S. market, SU substituted the AUF 300 series fuel pump for the LCS (and others) way back in the 70s in all of the parts books. I remember because I worked for one of the parts houses and we got the fliers and the catalogue page updates. Since then, I have seen many british cars using the current AUF pump regardless of what was in there when it was new. Here is a helpful paper on the subejct of SU pumps.

You will see that the AUF 300 comes in a high pressure version that matches the pressure of the LCS.

Thanks legal Bill. The article is very informative. So really, if I choose a pump that has a similar output it shouldn't be a problem. I notice the MGCs E-Types etc run the ASX1307 with an output of 15 gals per hour. if they will supply an E-Type I would think a Healey wouldn't be an issue.

That just about sums it up, Matthew. If you have the old LCS type, either keep it for your next owner, or pass it along to someone who is doing a correct restoration. They can be hard to find and they can be rebuilt.
