FUEL PUMP

Is there a universal pump and will it fit my 77 "B"
The Moprod that is in the car is working but it seams to over heat.
It was running continuously but when I took it apart, the check valve was not sealing on the out side of the pump. So I think it was running all the time and hence over heating. Dose that sound correct?
I have heard that other owners have put in an auxiliary pump in line to assure fuel to the engine. Is there such a unit. Or is there a in line check valve that is available.

David: I can't speak to the overheating question - but there are a few different SU pumps available, new, for the MGBs. One version is the standard style with points, the other is solid state - there are differing points of view on which one is better (one side says points can be worked on and fixed, the other says solid-state won't just "wear out" in the first place, I think both have their merits). There is also a double-sided pump that offers some redundancy.

As for the auxiliary fuel pump, I understand those pumps are simple pumps you can switch on in case your normal "automatic" pump fails so you're not stranded somewhere.

Moss has all these pumps on their web site, and are readily available from other dealers.

the soilid-state Facet fuel pump is very simple, cheap and reliable (but noisey). Available at most "hot-rod" shops...two models are available(the low press 3 to 4 psi model is plenty for Brit cars.....I'm using a regulator on my Spridget to reduce it to 2 psi).

I bought mine locally for $45 (adjustable regulator is about $20, if needed).
