fuel pump lever pivot pin retaining shims?

So I've rebuilt a couple of pumps lately where the shims/wedges that hold the pivot pin in the pump housing aren't holding the pin in place reliably.

It really can't be staked down, unless I grind the shim so that it sits below the mating surface of the pump body.

I was contemplating solder (I have some aluminum alloy solder that works well) but thought I'd see what the fuel pump experts here might suggest, before I go setting fuel pump housings on fire.....

That pump is different than my original pumps housing.

Yes, some of the pumps don't use the shims - the pivot pin goes through the housing itself. The one pictured is common on the TR2/3/4's, although this particular pump has a ford cortina lever.
