The original pump was designed for 5/16 lines (and the special ferrules), Triumph used a special nut to adapt 1/4 line on the output. Actually it's not all that special, the 5/16->1/4 nut used to be a standard hardware item (I found one at my FLAPS, many years ago).
One of my first lathe projects was turning a nut with a tip long enough to use a standard ferrule. It's still on there (moved over from the wrecked car).
