Fuel pump for Webers

My Facet cube fuel pump on my Weber DCOE equipped TR3 went out. I remember reading somewhere that a Carter is preferable, but I couldn't find the post on this forum. Anybody remember the post or have the info I am looking for?

I favor the Carter and 1 of these days I'm going to get with Alan and buy his. I don't think he is a fan but he only has 1 experience. His pumped out 3 times the post pressure.

The Carter CRT-P60504 is rated at 4psi and priced at $59.39. I am considering a Holley Blue (Pegasus #1111) which includes a Holley pressure regulator for $138. Big difference in cost. Also big difference in gph, tho.

Alan bought the Carter you mentioned and it put out almost 16 psi. Flooded the triple set up. One of the reasons he decided to go the PI change he had been planning.

The low pressure Facett has worked reliably on my Alfa and the MGB for years. To dampen the 'rattle' they are mounted in what VW used to mount Rabbit radiators, Benz uses to locate the air cleaners: rubber 'bobbins' with studs vulcanized on each end. It isolates the pump well enough to quiet it to SU type level.

Both of these cars are DCOE fed, BTW.

I installed a single DCOE on my Spit 1500. I read that the stock mech fuel pump wasn't ideal for the Weber, so I bought the Carter electric pump.

After installing the carb, I began looking for a place to mount the pump...became discouraged and decided to connect the mech pump. Well, that seems to work just fine. I doubt that I will install the electric pump now. If you need a pump (new in box), let me know. Even if you just want to borrow it to size things up, no problem.

Doc, is your low pressure Facett the cube electronic or the rotory vane type? My son and I both have gone through a couple Facett cubes and would like to get something that lasts more than a couple years or so.

Len, thanks for the offer. At this time I'm considering either the Holley Blue or maybe Doc's Facett if it isn't the cube type.

If you buy the Holley you'll be paying for far more pump than a TR engine will ever use...there simply no way a little TR engine would ever need that big pump.

Kinda like Twiggy wearing one Dolly Partons bras...IMHO.

Actually, yes it's the cube. Been on this MGB since about 1990. It SAT inert for over a year and STILL rattled up pressure and is supplying fuel just fine.

Check the link to Aircraft Spruce in the "Fuel Pressure Regulator" thread tdskip started here:

Got one for sale never used, mounted and removed 2 weeks ago.
No info or box. It was purchased a couple of years ago and I changed my plans.

Doc, thanks for the link. I talked to a couple of local guys who also have had good results with the Facet cube. Maybe we just ran into a couple of bad ones. Think we'll try em again.

Yankee, Twiggy? You're dating yourself. Interesting analogy, however.

You can get 'em at a NAPA too, but I figure if Burt Rutan will trust 'em, they're good enuff for 'rolling stock' as well. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

JFS- I thought I posted this last night, Must have been tired. Do you want ti buy mine?

DNK, I just bought one from the local NAPA store and hope to get the TR3 back on the road this afternoon.

Thanks to all who responded; I think I saved a few bucks by giving the cube another try.

All,
the correct carter pump is (i think-can't remember) model 4070 or 7040, high volume , low pressure.

here again,
yup 4070. going rate about $60.
Rob

The new Facet is no long housed in a metal cube. NAPA says it has the same part number and specs: Facet Posi-Flo EFPE #60104 1.5 - 4 psi. I'll try to post a pic.

Looks like a vane pump now. Interesting. Let us know how it goes. And mounting it in the aforementioned rubber bobbins helps a LOT to reduce the feedback noise.
